A forum for Bateria members, the Escola de Samba and enthusiasts alike to study regularly performed material -- Carnaval winning themes along with some of the "classic standards" from the Samba Enredo repetoire.
Samba Toronto and The Royal Conservatory of Music World Music Centre offers three distinctive courses in Samba Music and Dance.
1) Brazilian Samba ("Samba de Raiz/Pagode")
Instructors Alan Canadense and special guests from Toronto’s sambista musician community.

In this course, students will explore many styles of samba from different parts of Brazil. They will examine its history and take a look at some of the country’s most important performers of the art form including Fundo de Quintal, Zeca Pagodinho, Paulinho da Viola, Cartola, Caetano Veloso, Tom Jobim, Leila Pinheiro, Elis Regina, and others. Students will perform and study music and poetry, using the percussion instruments of the Samba de Raiz (sometimes known as Pagode) style, including: pandeiro, rebolo, tamborim, cuica, reco-reco, agogo, surdo, chocalho, cavaquinho (4 string guitar) and others. We will also study the instruments and techniques of the samba tradition from the famed Brazilian Carnaval, known as Samba Enredo. All instruments are provided, although students may easily purchase their own from a local retailer, if desired. This is an excellent course for those interested in becoming more familiar with samba’s roots and for those wanting to improve their musical expression through vocalizing and percussive techniques.

2) Bateria from The Escola de Samba de Toronto
Carnaval samba ("Samba Enredo") bateria lessons and rehearsals, every Sunday afternoon.
